I've been trying to incorporate techie stuff into my classroom. I am currently having kids research an element, make Microsoft Publisher "advertisements" for products that contain their element, and print them in color on cardstock for classroom decor. One thing I learned is that if you don't have Publisher on your computer at home, you can't open the files. Is there a an open source "publisher" program out there that any have used?

What's going on in the classroom...

Hm. Good question. I haven't looked. You could check out Zoho.com, though it's blocked at school. Or do this - and let me know if you find something good - visit www.sourceforge.net the home of free opensource software and do a search. softpedia.com is another source.
I too am doing a lot more new things with tech in my classrooms. I've always used tech because I've been teaching digital multimedia and journalism for years. However, thanks to NCLB I lost the multimedia classes - they said I was unqualified because my credential is in English - go figure. Anyhow, we're doing discussion boards and class email right now, and plan soon to expand. Let me know about a free publisher program.
One last suggestion, get a PDF maker, then you can convert Publisher docs into PDF so everyone can view them.
Hey, my family noticed this sculpture at the Henry Miller Library when we were there in October! Awesome! I only notice the photograph hanging in the bathroom of someone I went to high school with...weird!
